Chocolate Rebel Bars

In exchange for chemistry information, Jessica Heine gave me the most delicious bar for payment. She described them as a gooey chocolate, oatmeal bar and that is when I gave in. The first layer is composed of oats, butter, sugar, and flour. The middle part is made of chocolate and sweetened condensed milk. The top layer is made of the rest of the bottom layer. These bars were very sweet, but they also had an offsetting taste from the oats and flour. My aunt makes bars that are very similar to this, but they have caramel in the middle. I think this recipient could be improved by adding some flavor into the crumble part. It was pretty bland, and it just tasted like flour. If you are interested in making these, here is the recipient straight from the maker…
The Recipe:
-1 stick Butter
-1 stick Margarine
-2 cups Brown Sugar
-3 cups Quick Cooking Oats
-2 1/2 cups Flour
-1 tsp. Baking Soda
-1 tsp Salt
-1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk
-1 1/2 cups Chocolate Chips
-4 Tbs Butter
Mix the butter and sugar together, then add the oats. Mix the flour, salt, and soda together then add to the first mixture. Press 2/3 of the mixture into 9×13. Melt the chocolate, milk, and butter together and poor over the crust. Crumble the rest of the first mixture over top and bake 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees.
